EARLY PLANS SUBMITTED FOR PRESTWICH REDEVELOPMENT

In response to Bury Council’s invitation to receive proposals for the development of Prestwich Village, Altrincham property company Hollins Murray Group Ltd (HMG) have today submitted their plans for Longfield Shopping Centre.

The suggested town centre regeneration would bring vast improvements to facilities currently available including a new, relocated library and health centre, upgraded highways and parking facilities and at the request of Bury Council, a safer and more direct access route to Prestwich Metrolink station. The retail space will be heavily modernised and the plans also incorporate a number of flats, aimed towards young professionals and families, which will create a sustainable living space within easy reach of the Metro and sources of employment.

HMG already own the Longfield Shopping Centre itself and the planning application is their response to Bury Councilís plans to develop the wider area. A need has been identified for Prestwich centre to be regenerated for the future into, ìa thriving and diverse centre with improved vitality and viability arising from regeneration projectsî. There has also been concern over structural and damp problems with the existing buildings originally constructed during the 1960’s.

HMG Chief Executive, Andrew Murray says, “We are delighted to answer the Council’s brief with our proposal and would embrace the opportunity to further invest in Prestwich. Research and discussion with the Council, has confirmed the area has potential to become a flourishing retail and residential location and we’re delighted to submit our plans to greatly improve the very core of the village”.

Bury Council have received the planning application which was prepared on behalf of HMG by Craig Foster Architects.
