HMG SET TO REALISE RETAIL OPPORTUNITIES IN BURTON

North West retail and commercial property investors, Hollins Murray Group Ltd (HMG) have acquired the long leasehold interest in Burton Place Shopping Centre, Burton upon Trent from Zurich Assurance Ltd in a £10.5m deal.

The eight unit centre is currently home to a range of discount retailers such as Wilkinson, Home Bargains and Farmfoods as well as more traditional national retailers such as Boots, Carphone Warehouse and Walmsleys.

In addition to benefitting from some in-built rental growth, HMG is considering a potential extension to the centre to provide more retail space. The Local Authority is in the process of planning a regeneration of Burton town centre and it is anticipated that Burton Place will be well placed to become involved in this.

“The attraction to HMG with this purchase is not only its perfect fit with our current portfolio”, comments HMG Chief Executive, Andrew Murray, “But also a healthy net initial yield along with the opportunity to improve and develop the centre in synchrony with plans put forward by East Staffordshire Borough Council. It is always our intention to realise the optimum potential of any site we invest in and Burton Place is a prime example of this”.

Situated in the heart of town, Burton Place was built in 1986 and under went a large refurbishment in 1999. It now attracts over 80,000 shoppers each week.

Savills acted for HMG, Jackson Criss for Zurich Assurance Ltd.
