Bill Murray 1964-2023

The Hollins Murray Group are saddened to share the news that our Chairman, Bill Murray, died suddenly on 4th February 2023.

Bill was a great-grandson of HMG’s founder and joined the board as a non-executive director in 2007. He spent much of his professional career in the media industry and was Managing Director of Haymarket Media Group’s digital businesses worldwide until 2008. Since then he developed a portfolio of NED & advisory roles across media, property and technology sectors, and prior to his death was serving on many boards, including being Chairman at HMG and Sosandar PLC. Nick Casson commented: “This is utterly tragic news and everyone at HMG is devastated. Bill was a tremendous Chairman, and a trusted advisor to me as CEO. We worked together for over 15 years, including 13 in his role as Chairman. He supported me at all times and we never had a cross word. Bill was a leader, and a very popular one at that – his peers respected him and valued his input immensely. When Bill spoke, we all listened and the boardroom will be a lonelier place without him there. Importantly, Bill was also a close and valued personal friend and I will miss him enormously. My thoughts, and the rest of the staff at HMG, are with his wife, Sarah and two children, Alex and Josie and the rest of Bill’s family at this time.” Bruce Murray will now take on the role of HMG’s Chairman.
